How do you test an electric scooter choke?
If you have a multimeter you can test the power supply by disconnecting the automatic choke and touching the meter leads onto the wires which the choke was connected to whilst running the engine at a fast tickover – (make sure not to touch them together!) The wires should give you a reading of 12-14volts AC.
How do I know if my electric choke is working?
Check from red plug to ground to be sure you have power first. Your photo shows the choke in it’s cold or closed position. When you work the throttle the fast idle cam (other side of the carb) should rotate into the fast idle position. Turn the ignition on and wait a minute..now work the throttle again.
Why does my scooter dies when I give it gas?
This can be caused by a faulty petcock (or vacuum leak), bad hoses, clogged fuel filter, stuck float, any of which could also be exasperated by low quality gas.

How long should electric choke stay on?
At 5°-10°C (41°-50°F), the choke plate should be fully open in about ten minutes. Check for bent choke linkage and a defective thermostat cap. And ensure the fast idle cam (screw) is properly set.
How do you activate an automatic choke?
How to Set the Automatic Choke
- Park the vehicle and shut off the engine.
- Raise the hood and lock it in place.
- Locate the throttle lever on the left side of the carburetor.
- Release the stopping arm and the throttle lever so that they both snap back into place.
What happens if the choke is left on?
Leaving the choke on for too long will cause unnecessary engine wear and waste fuel. The engine needs its fuel to be vaporised in order to burn it. This is done by the carburettor where the fuel is mixed with clean air coming from the air filter, and sent into the pistons to be ignited.
When should I use choke on a scooter?
It is also recommended by many manufacturers that one should use the choke to start the bike/ scooter when it is getting started for the first time in a day (normally in morning time). In a nutshell the choke comes handy when the engine gives you starting trouble, especially when it is at a cold state.
How do you start a scooter that won’t start?
If the scooter does turn over but still doesn’t start you have to check for a spark and make sure gas is getting to the engine. To check for a spark, remove the spark plug from the cylinder, hold the tip of the plug against the cylinder head and crank the engine.
Is there a choke on a scooter?
How do I use a choke on a scooter? The choke is a cold-starting aid. Before attempting to start the engine from cold turn the choke on. Once engine is started and as it warms up slowly turn it off.
What causes a moped not to start?
Check the Engine Ignition and Fuel System: In most cases, the problem with a scooter not starting but with power is caused by an issue with the engine; either a bad spark plug wire, bad plug or a fuel system problem. This is caused by a problem with the spark plug, spark plug wires, or the ignition coil.
